United Kingdom | India Young Professionals Scheme visa

Impact: High

Summary

UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) have now confirmed the process for the new ‘India Young Professionals Scheme’ visa. The scheme allows Indian nationals between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, to live and work in the UK for up to 2 years. This process involves a ballot system that will be open for entry on 28 February 2023.

The Detail

On 01 January 2022, the Youth Mobility Scheme was expanded to include Indian and Icelandic nationals, with 3,000 allocated places in 2022 for Indian nationals. The Indian Young Professionals Scheme is now the standalone scheme specifically for Indian nationals and allows successful individuals to live and work in the UK for up to 2 years, and offers significantly more allocations. Please note that with the new scheme, Indian nationals can no longer make applications under the Youth Mobility Scheme.

The newly announced India Young Professionals Scheme visa process consists of a ballot system that will be open for entry on 28 February 2023 and will close on 02 March 2023. In this February ballot, 2,400 places will be selected at random.

Individuals will be able to submit their entry for the ballot online for free by providing their personal and passport details. Provided successful, they will receive an invitation to apply for a visa within 30 days at a cost of £259.

In order to be eligible for this scheme, individuals will need to satisfy the following requirements:

  • be an Indian citizen
  • be between 18 and 30 years old
  • have a qualification at degree level or above have at least £2,530 in
  • savings that must have been held for the 28 days

Details of the next ballot are yet to be announced, however this is likely to be held in July 2023.

Further to the introduction of High Potential Visas and expanding of the Youth Mobility Scheme, this new scheme is evidence of the UK Government’s commitment to attract young talent to the UK.
