Philippines | Change within the Philippine Bureau of Immigration

Summary

Following the dismissal of the current Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner, effective 10 September 2024, Atty. Joel Anthony Viado was appointed as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the BI to oversee the Bureau’s day-to- day operations.

Effect on applications

With the appointment of an OIC, adjudications are scheduled to occur regularly (once or twice a month) which should not impact the processing of visa conversion and extension applications. However, for applications that have been approved and are in the implementation phase, a delay of approximately 7-10 working days is expected due to the amendment of approval orders to include the names of the current BI executives.
