Oman | Revised occupational codes and documentation requirements

Summary

Oman has introduced a revised list of official job codes and titles that must be used for all employment-related applications. Furthermore, the documentation required for renewing Employment Visas and Dependent Residence Permits has been expanded.

The detail

In January 2026, the Omani Government implemented significant updates requiring all employment contracts associated with an Employment Visa and Residence Card application, including amendments and renewals, to strictly adhere to a newly revised list of official job codes and titles.

Concurrently, the authorities have expanded documentation requirements; both Employment Visa and Residence Card renewal applications must now include an attested education certificate, while Dependent Residence Permit renewal applications require an attested marriage and birth certificates, moving beyond the previous policy where such documentation was only necessary for first-time applications.

What this means

For employers, companies must review their existing contracts to ensure the job titles match the new official codes before submitting any renewal or amendment paperwork to avoid processing delays.

Employees approaching their renewal date must also ensure their education qualifications are correctly legalised by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In relation to dependents, the sponsoring residents must ensure the marriage and birth certificates are legalised by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to avoid any rejection of the renewal applications without the necessary documentation in place.
