Summary
The Indian High Commission in Canada confirmed that India will resume some visa services for Canadian citizens from 26 October 2023. This comes after over a month of visa services being suspended, as reported in our alert on 21 September 2023.
Details
The High Commission of India in Ottawa confirmed that its consulates in Toronto and Vancouver will resume entry visa, business visa, medical visa and conference visa services from October 26. India had suspended the issuance of visas for Canadian nationals for over a month due to ongoing diplomatic tensions. As such, it is likely that there will be a backlog of pending applications which may protract standard processing times. Canada has also confirmed that limited in-person consular services continue to be available at the Canadian High Commission in Delhi (with in-person services in Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Mumbai being temporarily suspended). It is expected that there will be delays in the processing of Canadian visa, work permit and other applications for applicants based in India.
It is hoped that the resumption of limited Indian visa services for Canadians is a sign of easing tensions between the two countries.
