Thailand | Immigration | “e-Work Permit” System now operational

Summary

Further to our recent alert regarding the introduction of the ‘e-Work Permit’ , we have continued to closely monitor developments regarding the system changes in coordination with the relevant Thai authorities.

The Detail

Current Status

The e-Work Permit (eWP) system has now been enhanced and is ready for use. Employers and expatriate employees in Thailand can start submitting their work permit applications online. Several successful cases have already been processed.

Key notes for Interim arrangements

  • Extension of existing work permit: Employers may now submit extension applications up to 60 days in advance (previously 30 days).
  • Paper submissions: From 29 October 2025 to 28 January 2026, paper submissions may still be accepted by officers (subject to consideration and approval) only if proof of an unsuccessful online submission (e.g., screenshot showing the reason, date, and time) is provided.
