Mexico | Increase in immigration government fees

Summary

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies recently approved substantial adjustments to immigration government fees, resulting in up to a 100% increase in some services, including those applicable to temporary and permanent residents.

The detail

Last November 7th, the Mexican Congress approved the increase in immigration fees for various procedures starting on January 1st 2026. The main objective is to update the fees charged for various procedures and public services, due to increases in operating costs and the need to align the law with recent sectoral reforms.

The adjustments directly impact sponsoring companies that hire foreign personnel, current residents and their family members as some fees increase to up to over 100%.

These new fees are specifically for the issuance of new residence cards and when renewing the permits for residents in Mexico.

Also, new fees were added, specifically for unaccompanied Minors traveling outside of Mexico without any of the parents where now they will have to pay a fee prior to departing Mexico.

The new fees starting from January 1st, 2026 will be as follows, in Mexican Pesos and the USD equivalent (for reference):

Actions

Fee adjustments may affect both corporate and employee mobility budgets. We suggest reviewing internal approvals and forecasts to ensure there are sufficient contingencies to cover the revised government costs effective January 2026.
