Colombia | Colombia declares health emergency due to yellow fever — vaccination recommended for travelers

Summary

Due to a yellow fever outbreak, the Colombian government has declared a health emergency. Although the yellow fever vaccine is not a mandatory entry requirement, travelers — especially those visiting high-risk areas — are strongly advised to be vaccinated against yellow fever before arrival.

The detail

On April 16, 2025, the Colombian Ministry of Health issued Resolution 691 of 2025, declaring a health emergency due to a yellow fever outbreak. In line with the International Health Regulations (IHR-2005), travelers arriving from countries with yellow fever transmission or traveling to high-risk areas in Colombia may be asked to present an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).

We strongly recommend that all employees traveling to Colombia—particularly those visiting high-risk areas—be vaccinated against yellow fever and carry the ICVP as a preventive measure. The vaccine should be administered at least 10 days before travel.

Vaccination posts will also be available for travelers who have not been vaccinated in advance.

The list of high-risk areas is available on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection’s website.

Actions

• Advise all employees traveling to Colombia to get vaccinated against yellow fever before traveling to Colombia. Ensure the vaccination is completed at least 10 days prior to travel.
• Encourage travelers to carry their International Certificate of Vaccination, as it may be requested by immigration/local authorities or airlines.
• Review travel itineraries and identify if any visits to high-risk areas are planned. The updated list can be consulted on the Ministry’s official website.
