Thailand | Immigration | Temporary Work Permit introduced to address work permit processing delays

Summary

Thai authorities have introduced a Temporary Work Permit for foreign nationals whose work authorisation has been approved but whose official work permit is delayed due to administrative or operational issues.

The detail

A new Temporary Work Permit (Form B.T. 62) has been introduced under a Department of Employment notification published on 9 July 2026, with effect from 1 July 2026. The permit is available to foreign nationals whose work authorisation has already been approved, but whose formal work permit cannot yet be issued due to administrative or operational delays.

The temporary permit provides legal evidence of an individual’s right to work in Thailand while the formal work permit is being processed. This interim measure is intended to reduce disruption for both employers and employees arising from delays in work permit issuance.

What this means

The new Temporary Work Permit may help employers avoid onboarding delays by allowing foreign nationals with approved work authorisation to lawfully start or continue work while their formal work permit is issued. This provides greater workforce flexibility, supports business continuity, and reduces the operational impact of processing delays.
