Taiwan | Digital Nomad Visitor visa

Summary

Launched on January 1, 2025, by the National Development Council (NDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the new “Digital Nomad Visitor visa” aims to attract financially independent foreign professionals, allowing them to stay in Taiwan for periods ranging up to six months. To apply for an extension, the applicant has to do it before the visa expires within Taiwan. The authority holds the right of discretion in the approval.

The detail

To be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visitor visa, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  1. You must be a citizen of a country that is one of the Taiwan’s visa-exemption countries;
  2. You must provide proof of a Digital Nomad Visa issued by another country; (or) proof of annual salary (i.e. tax or salary certificate issued by employer as well as provide bank statement showing an average monthly deposit of $10,000 in the past six months); and
  3. Provide proof of your remote work experience (i.e. resume, work contracts).

Additional documentation required includes an “Explanation of the plan for your stay in Taiwan” official form, as well as bank statements showing an average monthly deposit of at least $10,000 over the past six months, and proof of international medical insurance (which covers long-term medical needs and emergencies). Other supporting documents may be required, as determined by the R.O.C (Taiwan) on a case-by-case basis.

Application procedure

Applicants applying from outside of the R.O.C (Taiwan) must submit their applications to an R.O.C (Taiwan) overseas mission (i.e. Embassy or Consulate). The mission will then send the application materials to the National Development Council (NDC) to review the applicants’ qualifications.

Applicants applying from within the R.O.C (Taiwan) via visa exemption or a non-extendable visitor visa for other purposes (e.g., social visit, tourism, or business) must submit their application to the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) at least 10 business days before their current duration of stay:

  1. The application materials will be sent to the NDC to review the applicants’ qualifications.
  2. The NDC will then send the results back to BOCA for further review. Applicants who fail to obtain the visa must leave the R.O.C (Taiwan) before their legal duration of stay expires.
  3. An interview may be required.

Please note that the Digital Nomad Visitor visa does not allow for the inclusion of dependents. For any dependents, they should apply for their own individual visa.
