Qatar | Qatar ends temporary free visa extensions

Summary

The Qatar Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the temporary free extension policy for entry visas will end on 7 June 2026. From that date, the usual visa validity periods, renewal processes, and applicable government fees will resume.

The detail

This development marks the end of the temporary concession introduced on 3 March 2026, when visitor visas were extended for a period of 30 days at no cost to support individuals affected by regional airspace closures and flight disruptions. As travel operations have largely normalized, the authorities are now returning to the standard immigration framework.

The change affects a number of entry permit categories, including short-term multiple-entry visas, family visit visas, single-entry business visas, and Hayya visas.

What this means

Individuals holding tourist, family, or business visas that are nearing expiry should review their status promptly, as the temporary free extension period will no longer apply once the policy ends.

To remain compliant and avoid overstay penalties, affected individuals should, where eligible, submit a renewal application through the Metrash2 app or Ministry of Interior portal, or make arrangements to depart Qatar before 7 June 2026.
