Mexico | Temporary suspension of visa appointments before the INM and visa denials before the Consular Offices for certain nationalities

Summary

The National Immigration Institute (INM) has temporarily suspended the allocation of visa appointments authorized by INM, while the Consular Offices overseas are rejecting the issuance of different types of visa for certain nationalities.

While no official announcement has been issued, the measure is already affecting scheduling and may continue intermittently in the short term.

The detail

The INM is currently not granting visa appointments authorized by INM, as well as the Consulates overseas are rejecting the Visa Issuance (resident or visitor), even when all the requirements are fulfilled, for the following nationalities:

  • Colombian
  • Venezuelan
  • Cuban
  • Chinese
  • Haitian

At present, neither the INM nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have yet released any formal statement explaining the reason or expected duration of this decision. The measure appears to be applied intermittently, suggesting it is temporary in its nature.

Vialto will closely monitor the situation and provide updates once the appointment process for the affected nationalities has been regularized.

Key points

  • The INM is not currently granting appointments for Colombian, Venezuelan, Cuban, Chinese, and Haitian nationals.
  • The Consulates are not issuing residence or visitor visas for Colombian, Venezuelan, Cuban, Chinese, and Haitian nationals.
  • No official communication has been published to date.
  • The measure is being applied intermittently and is expected to be temporary.
  • Updates will be shared once normal visa processing with both authorities resume.

Impact for mobility teams:

  • Cases involving the listed nationalities may experience delays in scheduling appointments with the INM.
  • Cases involving the listed nationalities may be rejected at the Consulates, even when all requirements are met.
  • Planning should account for possible short-term disruptions until the situation is normalized.
  • Ongoing monitoring and timely updates will be provided to manage expectations with affected assignees and business stakeholders.
