Non-EEA nationals with an expired Irish Residence Permit (IRP) are to be permitted to leave and re-enter Ireland with an expired permit between 2 December 2024 and 31 January 2025. The Department of Justice issued a travel confirmation notice on 28 November 2024, confirming this temporary arrangement for non-EEA nationals resident in Ireland with an IRP.
This is a welcome announcement for any individuals whose renewal IRP application may not be processed prior to planning their Christmas travel, and will alleviate concerns for these individuals.
The travel confirmation notice confirms that individuals who are legally resident in Ireland and whose current IRP has recently expired, may use this expired IRP to travel over the Christmas period. This applies solely to travel between 2 December 2024 and 31 January 2025 and is only applicable if an IRP renewal application was filed prior to the expiry of the IRP. Any individual planning to travel will need to have proof that a renewal application has been filed and will need to print the relevant notice to carry with them when travelling.
Individuals who have a single entry visa only and a prior landing stamp will require a re-entry visa in order to re-enter Ireland.
