India | Update 2026: Revised salary threshold for work visa holders

Summary

The minimum annual salary for Work Visa holders in India has increased from INR 16.25 lakh to INR 24 lakh.

The detail

The revised minimum annual salary of INR 24 lakh applies to relevant Work Visa cases and in-country visa extension applications.

Recent Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) endorsements reflect the revised threshold. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has not yet issued a formal notification explaining the change and how it will be implemented.

What this means

Organizations sponsoring foreign nationals in India should review upcoming Work Visa applications, registrations and extensions to check whether remuneration meets the revised threshold.

The increase may affect assignment costs, remuneration structures and mobility budgets, especially where current or planned remuneration is below INR 24 lakhs a year.

Existing Work Visa holders and applications in progress may need case-by-case assessment pending further guidance.

Looking Ahead

Vialto is closely monitoring further guidance and implementation of the revised threshold. We will provide additional updates as further information becomes available.
