Czech Republic | Increase of minimum wage & change in health insurance contributions for minors (effective 1 January 2026)

Summary

From 1 January 2026, the increase in the Czech minimum wage to CZK 22,400/month will affect both employment and health insurance obligations. Employers must adjust salary offers for foreign workers to meet new legal thresholds, while families will see higher health insurance contributions for minors. The following update outlines the key impacts and steps to stay compliant.

The detail

From 1 January 2026, the increase in the Czech minimum wage to CZK 22,400/month (CZK 134.40/hour for a full-time schedule) will affect both employers and families with minors. This adjustment follows the indexation mechanism introduced in 2024, which aims to make wage updates more predictable and transparent.

For employers, this change directly impacts the Qualified Employee Migration Program. The minimum salary requirement under this program will increase to CZK 27,328/month (1.22× the new minimum wage). Employers must ensure their job offers and employment contracts reflect this updated threshold, as failure to do so could lead to delays or rejections of applications. It is essential to review and update recruitment processes now to remain both compliant and competitive in 2026.

In parallel, the minimum wage increase also affects public health insurance contributions, which are tied to wage levels. As a result, the monthly contribution for minors with Czech residence permits will rise to CZK 3,024. Parents and guardians must update their payment arrangements to avoid disruptions in healthcare coverage and ensure uninterrupted access to medical services for their children.
