***La versión en español debajo de la versión en inglés***

Summary

Chile has enacted Law No. 21,830, which increases the monthly minimum wage.

As from May 1, 2026, the monthly minimum wage for employees over 18 years old and up to 65 years old is increased to CLP 553,553.

The detail

On June 22, 2026, Law No. 21,830 was published in the Chilean Official Gazette, introducing a new increase to the monthly minimum wage in Chile.

The new monthly minimum wage applies retroactively as from May 1, 2026, and is set at CLP 553,553 for employees over 18 years old and up to 65 years old.

The law also establishes updated minimum wage amounts for other categories:

  • CLP 412,938 for employees under 18 years old and over 65 years old; and
  • CLP 356,815 for non-remuneration purposes.

In addition, the law provides that, as from January 1, 2027, the monthly minimum wage will be adjusted based on the accumulated variation of the Consumer Price Index, as determined by the Chilean National Statistics Institute for the period between May 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.

Recommended Actions

  • Review payroll records to confirm that the new monthly minimum wage is applied from May 1, 2026.
  • Assess whether retroactive payroll adjustments are required for the period starting May 2026.
  • Consider any impact on employment contracts, payroll calculations, social security contributions and other labor-related items linked to the monthly minimum wage.
  • Monitor the additional adjustment expected from January 1, 2027, based on CPI variation.
