Brazil | Technical issues delay authorization of residence applications
Summary
Authorization of Residence applications filed before the Ministry of Justice and Public Security via the online platform are facing technical difficulties during submission. As a consequence, some Authorization of Residence applications are delayed for several days/weeks until the Immigration authorities fix the technical error.
The Detail
Applications cannot be submitted on the Ministry of Justice and Public Security platform (called MIGRANTEWEB) due to technical difficulties. As a result, renewals and initial applications for various immigration categories cannot be filed. It is important to note that not all applications are being negatively impacted, but Vialto confirms those based on Normative Resolution 02 (i.e., applicable for those individuals employed by the local entity) cannot be submitted at present. There is no timeline released for the fix to take place.
What This Means
Foreigners looking to have applications renewed or filed are impacted, depending on their immigration category. The authorities have not yet released any communication acknowledging the technical difficulties even though there are widespread reports of the outage. Unfortunately, there is no alternative (i.e filing in paper the applications) in place to file these applications.
