Brazil | Immigration | Electronic visa system now open for US, Canadian, and Australian nationals entering under new visa requirements beginning January 10, 2024
Summary
On May 2 nd , 2023, the Brazilian government published Decree 11,515, establishing new visa requirements for nationals from Australia, Canada, and the United States of America (US). The enforcement of the measure was extended to January 10 th , 2024, by the Decree 11,692, published on September 5 th , 2023.
Nationals of the US, Canada, and Australia travelling into Brazil will need a visa if their entry to Brazil will occur on January 10 th , 2024, or onwards.
The electronic visa (e-visa) system is now open to accept online applications for citizens of these designated countries, resulting is no need to attend a Consulate to perform this process.
The e-visa platform is exclusively for tourism or business trips. Temporary visas, such as for working purposes, investment purposes, family reunion, among others, still require application submissions at a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate General.
The Detail
In accordance with the new visitor visa requirements going into force on January 10 th , 2024, Australian, Canadian and US nationals should obtain an electronic visit visa (e-Visa) to come to Brazil. Applications must be sent to VFS Global exclusively and personal attendance at a local Brazilian Embassy or Consulate is no longer required.
What This Means
For US, Canadian, and Australian nationals traveling to Brazil for tourism or business purposes, entering Brazil on January 10 th and beyond, they may now apply for an e-Visa through the new system.
